10 people who had an accident in the North-West Regions were rescued

Ten people who spent the night near the wreckage of a plane that crashed in the Northwest Territories on Wednesday were rescued on Thursday.

The Air Dinty Twin Otter, carrying eight passengers and two crew members, crashed near the Diavik diamond mine, about 300 km northeast of Yellowknife, around 12:45 p.m. local time.

Canadian military spokesman David Lavallee confirmed to various media outlets on Thursday that all 10 men were found safe and able to be evacuated by morning, and that they may be diverted elsewhere, probably to Yellowknife.

Several people suffered minor injuries, the official added.

Air Tindy chairman Chris Reynolds told NNSL Group Media that he was not aware of the cause of the accident and that it would be investigated by the Transport Safety Board. He said the plane's black box was also recovered.

The Army dispatched a Hercules C130 transport aircraft to fly over the crash site on Wednesday evening. Despite some difficulties due to strong winds, the plane was finally able to parachute two army nurses, who were able to help the survivors. A rescue team from Diavik Mine also rushed to the spot.

“We received communications every two hours during the night from the rescue team's technicians about everyone's condition and the weather,” said Mr. Reynolds said, noting that three helicopters flew from Yellowknife to the mine and eventually brought everyone back to the area. Capital.
