Sebastien Paquin, the doctor accused of 12 sexual assaults on Wednesday, was suspended by the University of Quebec hospital. Two weeks ago, the 40-year-old overturned a Court of Appeal ruling over an incident in 2017 for making inappropriate comments about a patient.
The management of the University Hospital of Quebec confirms that the doctor who trained at the Saint-François d’Assise Hospital was removed from his duties on Thursday.
“As of this morning, DR Paquin is no longer on the schedule and the necessary administrative procedures are underway,” explains Michèle Schaffner-Junius, spokeswoman for the CHU.
As the matter is pending in the courts, the management will not comment.
Sebastien Paquin appeared Wednesday to answer to 12 charges of sexual assault against minors. Five counts of making sexually explicit material available to a child, five counts of solicitation and one count of indecent acts. A final count of obtaining sexual services from a person under the age of 18 was also brought.
The charges target five victims who were 16 at the time of the incident.
A “triple trip” was proposed
Sebastien Paquin was already banned by the College of Physicians for a year in March 2018 for making sexual advances on a patient.
He prescribed “three people” to a 19-year-old patient who consulted for abdominal pain.
The doctor found him on Facebook and inappropriate discussions took place over the messenger app.
In the judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on September 13, DR Baku has submitted an expert report from a psychiatrist during the hearing on his admission. The latter doctor confirmed that the risk of recurrence was “low”.
” [Le] The psychiatrist tells the appellant that there is no clue or risk associated with sexual deviance [Paquin]. »
The appeal was granted two weeks ago
The accused objected to the judgment and the Labor Court upheld the preliminary decision of one year’s dismissal. DR Buckin later took the case to the Court of Appeals, which finally ruled in his favor two weeks ago.
This is because the removal initially provided for in the professional code during the events is temporary and established by analysis of the case law. Pakin’s lawyer had argued for a two-month extension.
However, the code was revised in June 2017, and the minimum exposure is now set at 5 years, which can be reduced “if the professional believes”. [le conseil] That period is not specified.
As a result of these changes, the board imposed a one-year suspension on Paquin. It was this regressive nature that the doctor contested.
The file was sent back to the Disciplinary Committee of the College of Physicians for analysis, but until the hearing, D.R Buckin is still in serious trouble. The doctor will appear before the criminal court again on November 30.
