The New England Patriots Didn’t impress in the pre-season final against Las Vegas Raiders. As coach Bill Belichick said after the 23-6 defeat, “The team didn’t have a good night at any point in the game.”
For specific players, here’s who caught our eye Friday night for better or worse.
Loser: QB Mac Jones. It’s still a disappointing proposition from the starting offensive unit. The heart of this unit is Jones, who was perhaps the worst objection of his young career on Friday night. The frustration It appears to be continuing to grow.
Winner: RB Kevin Harris. The 2022 sixth round pick is vying for a place on the roster and making his mark by breaking the best run by the Patriots of the season. Harris followed James Ferentz and slashed his arm as he nearly scored from 36 yards. It was one of the best plays New England had with its new scheme in the area all summer. Harris coughed up the ball late in the game, but continued to show his aggressive running style throughout the day.
Winner: CB Jack Jones. After a strong and inflated spring, Jones is finally on the field this summer. While his aggressiveness might eventually come back to hurt him, the fourth-round pick continued to show his ability to find football; Jones forced confusion and had a pass breakup on Friday night. There may not be a need to rely on it right away, but the novice continues to appear out of coverage.
Loser: the offensive line. Unity had some encouraging moments but overall it was a tough run against Las Vegas. Quarterbacks, Mac Jones in particular, have been under almost constant pressure while area bans remain a major issue in the running game. Add two punishing parts and you’ve got another disappointing day for the unit.
Winner: DT Labrian Ray. L’Brian Ray continued to make his case for a place on the list Friday night. He crushed the unpolished free agent by choosing former first-round pick Alex Leatherwood over the sack Daniel Equal, showing off his mighty hands once again. He’s been in the “play zone of the day” for the past few weeks of training camp.
Loser: RB Ty Montgomery. Mention the obvious here as it was Montgomery drive An ankle injury in the first quarter. Montgomery seemed to be establishing a steady role in New England crime recently. The injury could be a huge loss, which could lead to more work for Damien Harris and Ramondry Stevenson in the passing game. Rookie Pierre Strong Jr could earn more playing time in this role.
Other players worth noting include Jake Bailey, who had a good night with kicks and kicks, as well as Ramonder Stevenson who made the most of some inconsistent shocks up front. Rookie quarterback Billy Zappy, meanwhile, had a back interception, while apparent misunderstandings by Terrence Mitchell and Adrian Phillips led to a lengthy completion in the second quarter.
The Patriots’ next game will be the season opener in Miami on September 11th.
