CLEVELAND — The 49ers on Saturday elevated two players from the practice squad so they can prepare for their Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Linebacker Curtis Robinson has been given a promotion, and starting linebacker Dre Greenlaw may be in doubt. The 49ers also elevated cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles for the second time this season.
Greenlaw suffered a hamstring injury during training on Thursday and was listed as questionable for the game.
Shanahan said Friday that the team will have a better idea if Greenlaw is available to play. It appears as if the 49ers are inclined to play it safe with Greenlaw, who ranks second on the team behind Fred Warner with 37 tackles.
“[He] I just did something that I didn’t feel comfortable with, and now we’re safe and we’ll see how he feels [Saturday]Shanahan said.
The club expects newly acquired defensive end Randy Gregory to be active and make his debut for the 49ers. The team acquired Gregory last week in a trade with the Denver Broncos.
“He’s been adjusting well, been able to go through three full practices, learn, and pick up our scheme,” Shanahan said. “I think some of the techniques he’s used in the past are very similar, so I think he’ll learn it quickly and I’m excited to see him here on Sunday.”
