Last night’s Impact Wrestling tapings in Louisville, Kentucky included a high stakes match that has implications for the main event at Emergence on August 12.
The Motor City submachine guns, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, actually went head-to-head against each other to determine who would be the new number one contender to star in Josh Alexander Impact in PPV. When the dust settled, Shelley was the winner and the new winner of the company’s number one championship award. For fans interested in watching the match, it will be broadcast Thursday on Impact via AXS.
Shelley, 39, has made a name for himself as a tag team partner and singles wrestler at major companies such as Impact, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor. His list of accomplishments and title wins is extensive, including two Impact Tag Team titles reign with Sabin, the X-Division Championship, and he won numerous tournaments and awards over his years with the company. Along with Sabine, he also won the Tag Team titles at the Ring of Honor and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles in NJPW, which he also won twice with KUSHIDA.
Josh Alexander He only signed with Impact in 2018, but has been in tears ever since, holding a respectable title with the Tag Team Championships alongside Ethan Page, X-Division Champion, and Impact World Title now in his second reign. Alexander recently made his New Japan debut on the June 18 episode of “Strong”. He successfully defeated Alex Coughlin in an impressive first show for new Japan fans.
