The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating an assault and theft case against a driver who was allegedly severely assaulted while driving his vehicle in Mauricie on Saturday evening.
“I was sure to die while I was driving. He tried to gouge out my eyes and punched me about 15 times in the face. I broke my cheekbone and my nose,” said Christoph Cote, still in shock.

The 46-year-old was a volunteer at a music festival on Saturday in Sainte-Ursule, a small village of 1,400 people at Muskinonge’s MRC. Around 11.30pm a man entered the site without paying.
“I work at events and I have seen it before. I took him off the site because he was disturbing people and he was drunk. Then, I made the mistake of driving it,” he says.

Christoph Cote explains that the man became “very aggressive” on the road. He asked him to drive him back to his vehicle which was far away from the festival. That’s when he thought his time had come.

“I was driving on a small street surrounded by fields when he started hitting me continuously. I miraculously stopped the car. He wanted to kill me. It was like a movie. I fought for my life,” said Mr. Code asserts.

Forty was finally able to throw himself onto the road and free himself from his vehicle. His alleged assailant fled in a car.

After launching an appeal on social networks, Christophe Cote found his vehicle on Monday in the municipality of Laurier-Station, 150 km from Sainte-Ursule.

Christophe Cotte’s car was hit on Saturday evening.
“Today is good. I am happy to be alive and my brain is not affected,” he said.
Always needed
For its part, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirms that an investigation is underway to shed light on the incident.
“We are still looking for the suspect involved in the vehicle theft and assault in this case. […] For now, everything is not clear in this story, the investigation continues,” SQ Lieutenant Benoit Richard explains briefly.
“Having said that, sir, it seems like something has really happened. He actually brought the stolen vehicle to us and it was finally traced,” he adds.
