Elder Abuse: Resident at CHSLD reported to police

After implementing a new procedure at CHSLD Champagnath in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Daniel Pilot believes he was abused and files a police report.

Suffering from muscular dystrophy, he has been living at this CHSLD since 2014 and requires daily assistance.

He filed a complaint with the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu police on Tuesday under an article in the law to combat the abuse of seniors and other adults in vulnerable situations, adopted last April 6.

Staff reportedly told him that the new procedure would now be the case because he was uncomfortable in his wheelchair.

“I have come back three times to say that I do not agree with this position. “They tell me, ‘We’ll take a canvas to install you,’ but I don’t want that because my back doesn’t touch the back of my seat,” explains Mr. Pilot.

Under the new law, the company or perpetrator could be fined up to $125,000 for physical abuse and up to $250,000 for other cases.

Paul Brunet of the Patient Safety Council, Mr. In the pilot’s case he believed that section 21.1 of the Act should apply.

“For several weeks, Daniel Pilot has been adamant to the staff that so he can sit comfortably in his chair, he has been told he has a new fitting technique and this will be used from now on. . . This man is being mistreated in the sense of a criminal offense. He is not being abused, he is being mistreated. ,” says Mr. Brunet.

The CISSS de la Montérégie center did not want to comment on the situation.
