Kremlin critics are rare in the country and can be severely punished.

According to Radio Free Europe, Deputies from Lomonosov district say the transition of power is necessary for the country’s well-being.

Among the criticism leveled at the president, MPs say Putin “used aggressive rhetoric”.

“Your ideas and your management model are hopelessly outdated and hamper Russia’s development and its human potential,” their plea reads.

They also accuse him of “plunging Russia back into the Cold War era”.

Earlier this week, elected municipal officials in St. Petersburg asked the Duma, the lower house of the federal legislature, to accuse Vladimir Putin of “high treason.”

According to these elected officials, “Putin’s decision to launch an invasion of Ukraine harms the security of Russia and its citizens”.
