Tropical Storm Madeleine forms off the west coast of Mexico

Tropical Storm Madeleine forms off the west coast of Mexico

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was about 280 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, and 520 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas, on the tip of Baja California.

The storm’s outer bands are expected to interact with the remnants of Tropical Storm Leicester and produce torrential rain. More than 10 inches of rain is possible in Guerrero, Michoacán, and Oaxaca.

In areas south of Nayarit and Jalisco — including Puerto Vallarta — residents could see torrential rain, gale-force winds, and waves up to 13 feet along the coasts.

Rainfall from both Leicester and Madeleine can trigger landslides, raise water levels in rivers and streams, and inundate low-lying areas.

“Residents are urged to heed the warnings of SMN (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) and follow the guidance of state authorities,” the Mexican National Water Commission said. Ships were urged to take extreme precautions due to high winds and waves off the coast.

Lister It has already dissipated over Mexico, but its heavy rain is expected to continue in parts of coastal southern Mexico through Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Meanwhile, a Puerto Rican hurricane warning has been issued Tropical Storm Fiona Saturday approached, with the potential for “life-threatening floods and mudslides” over the next few days, authorities said.

A hurricane was expected in parts of Puerto Rico on Sunday and possibly in the US Virgin Islands Saturday night, according to the Hurricane Center.
