Telangana Rashtriya Samethi of Team K Chandrashekar of Team K Chandrashekar is up front in Munugode and the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray is set to win the seat of Andheri East in Mumbai.
-

-
Bihar witnesses its first contest – over two seats – since Nitish Kumar ditched the BJP to revive JDU’s alliance with Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD. RJD candidate Neelam Devi, wife of Anant Singh who was disqualified after being found guilty of illegal possession of weapons, drives in Mukama. In Gopalganj, the RJD is hoping to oust the BJP which has been holding it for nearly two decades now. He pitted Mohan Prasad Gupta against Kusum Devi of the BJP, whose death necessitated the election of her husband Subhas Singh.
-
In Haryana, former Prime Minister Bhajan Lal’s family seat, Adampur, will decide whether his grandson Bhavya Bishnoi can carry forward his 68-year legacy after switching from Congress to the BJP. Bhavya’s father, Kuldeep Bishnoi, who had led the family to the BJP, resigned as Adampur MLA when he defected, leading to this questioning.
-
Andheri East in Maharashtra is witnessing the first two. It is the first reconnaissance battle after Shiv Sena split in two as Eknath Shinde ousted Uddhav Thackeray to become the Prime Minister with the help of the BJP. It is the first time in decades that Sina led by Thackeray has fought with a new name – Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) – and a new symbol, the ‘torch’ or flaming torch.
-
Shiv Sena (Udhav) Rutuja Latke candidate is the former widow of Sena MLA from Andheri (East), who died of a heart attack in May 2022 in Dubai. The BJP had withdrawn its candidate as part of “political tradition” in opinion polls necessitated by the death of a leader.
-
In Telangana, Mongod watched the ruling TRS movement and its arch-rival BJP fight on the ground and made allegations of ‘Rs Crore’ – particularly given Prime Minister K Chandrashkar Rao’s ambition to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. Here the MLA Congress resigned and is Now fighting for BJP ticket.
-
Also in Dhamnagar in Odisha, the ruling regional party BJD is facing the BJP. It was won by the BJP last time but the death of MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi led to this competition. He sent his son.
-

It is unlikely that any of these contests will upset the accounts of existing state governments. But, with regional parties seeking to forge a united front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – just a year and a half later – these could be booster shots, or perception breaches, depending on the results.
