A week after being released on bail for gratuitously beating a passerby, a Montrealer is said to have done it again by attacking strangers and killing a septuagenarian.
“I’m going to kick your ass,” Tsaikov yelled at Yaya Kamara police, who was arrested on Sept. 6 for a series of attacks that same evening in Montreal’s Snowdon sector.
In distress and apparently intoxicated, the 29-year-old suspect was arrested for unprovoked assaults on passers-by before fleeing.
According to our information, he was arrested shortly after unconscious.
However, if the police found three victims, they did not know there was a fourth.
Robert Mazzo, 75, was found the next afternoon after a concerned relative called police after hearing nothing from the elder. On their way to the scene, patrol officers found the victim, who was injured.
Initially treated as a suspicious death, investigators eventually confirmed it was a homicide. Camara, already detained in connection with other attacks, was formally charged in a Montreal court on Tuesday. He is currently facing a life sentence.
However, Kamara was not the first of his violent gestures. Ten days before the alleged murder, the accused was arrested for taking a passerby’s headphones and beating him up.
Despite everything, he was released on bail with a $300 deposit and no alcohol. He would have broken this condition since the evening of the tragedy and witnesses would have seen him with a bottle of beer in hand.
Since his arrest, he has been subject to expertise to verify his competency to stand trial. He was sent for a psychiatric evaluation to assess whether he could be criminally responsible for the crimes he was accused of.
He will return to court later for further proceedings.
