Quebecers in the south of the province woke up to snow on Saturday. Flakes are expected to form overnight and rise up to 20 centimeters in some areas, making road conditions difficult.
According to Environment Canada, snow weather warnings are in effect for Montreal, Laval, Estrie, Gatineau, Richelieu Valley, Saint-Hyacinthe, Vaudreuil-Soulange and Huntington.
In the metropolitan area, up to 15 centimeters of snow is expected. Further south, toward Gatineau and the US border, up to 20 centimeters could accumulate. In Gatineau, Environment Canada is warning of snowfall of up to 2 centimeters per hour.
Rainfall is expected to taper off during the day and stop in the evening.
Warning on the roads
In the morning, visibility is reduced on many roads in Quebec, particularly in the Estrie, Montérégie and Laurentians, according to the Transport Ministry’s website.
Canadian environment expert Guillaume Peron warned on Friday that winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour could cause snow.
Béatrice Dorsainville, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec, said several minor collisions and collisions were reported on Quebec roads in the morning. No serious injuries were reported.
At the end (or beginning) of school break, many flights to Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Airport are canceled or delayed, according to the airport’s website.
