Rosemont Massacre: Arthur Calarno is accused of the accidental murders of his parents and his grandmother

A 19-year-old man who allegedly killed all of his family members in a duplex in the Rosemont district was arrested yesterday and charged in a Montreal court with three counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Arthur Calarno appeared on the phone. The teenager faces three counts of second-degree murder. The victims were his parents, Mylene Gingras and Richard Galarneau, 53, and his grandmother, Francine Gingras-Boucher, 75.

The suspect has no criminal record, while the motive behind the triple murder is unknown. The parents of the accused being separated, we also do not know why the family was together during the tragedy.

According to our information, the accused has already been followed for mental health issues. A social worker visited him frequently.

Friends testify about problems

According to the young man’s relatives, these problems would have started appearing very early.

“When we played hockey together at 16, he sometimes left games early [parce qu’il était en crise]. He was pulling his hair out … and I know the last two years haven’t been easy for him,” said his former hockey teammate Mathis Marchant-Roy.

Another of his friends, Ludovic Lachapelle, noticed that his friend had been isolating himself in recent months, calling him “very lonely”.

“In life, he was a very calm and gentle person, but people around him knew that he had mental health issues from a young age. He was taking medicine. Lately, he has not been doing so well”, he assured, even in a video posted by Arthur Calarno on Instagram, the latter said that he was starting to be “happy”.

Arthur Calarno is due back in court on April 11.
