The Quebec model will eventually crack

I am not an economist.

But hey, I’m not an idiot either.

I’m like you: an informed worker (and taxpayer).

It seems to me that you don’t need a master’s degree from the London School of Economics to realize that our system is collapsing.

at high speed.

The model doesn’t like it anymore

Let’s get the facts straight.

And many are retiring.

These people will live long.

So, we have to pay them to do nothing for a long time.

Just because these people live longer doesn’t mean they live healthier.

Most will be sick for more years and that’s it.

Conclusion: More people end up in the hospital or CHSLD.

And they require longer and longer maintenance. Because life expectancy is increasing.

We are having fewer and fewer children.

There will be fewer and fewer workers to pay for these pensions and all these health care services.

Since the ability of taxpayers to pay is infinite, we cannot afford to impose and tax workers more than we currently do.

All the studies show it: past a certain level, the more you tax taxpayers, the less they’re interested in working, so less money goes into government coffers.

The same tax: Above a certain level, the more you tax consumers, the less people consume, and the less money goes into government coffers.

Fewer and fewer people are interested in working evenings and weekends.

So fewer and fewer workers will be interested in working in the healthcare system.

At the same time our health needs will explode. And we will have more patients to treat.

And their sores get more and more serious.

The government is being asked to further address issues previously handled by the family, clergy and community.

Therefore, the government has to spend more.

When his coffers are low on money.

To compensate for labor shortages, we turn to immigration.

But these settlers must be accommodated.

Frenchize them. Combine them. Educate them.

This will incur new costs.

This will continue to be added to the column of growing expenses.

With the rate of inflation, more and more spending costs.

So, am I the only one finding this “business model” doesn’t work?

That the machine will end up cracking, these days?

Who would have the guts?

As I said I am not an economist.

But at some point, I tell myself I have no choice but to cut costs. As all families in Quebec are currently doing.

What government would have the guts to do that?

No.

Because offering indexed tax cuts is politically more profitable.
