Japanese-language Super Mario Bros movie trailers are on the way

For anyone who was hoping for a minor American version of the Super Mario Bros movie With the performance by the Japanese voice acting of the film, your time has finally come, but it won’t last long.

It’s not really clear when, exactly, Illumination and Universal came out Super Mario Bros movie It would break away from the necks of other films and leave someone else with the role of being number one at the box office. But starting Friday, the Japanese-language film will begin showings “for a limited time only” in select theaters in Honolulu, Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver.

While the film’s English-speaking voice cast does a perfectly adequate job bringing both Mario Classic gaming characters come to life, they’re different enough from their video game counterparts that it might be hard for some to get over how, say, Princess Peach looks like Anya Taylor-Joy speaking in her usual voice. The same can likely be said of the Japanese-language cast if you really listen closely enough, but the not-in-English version of the movie will probably do a lot for American theatergoers when it comes out here on April 28th.
