Foreign intervention | The Conservatives are willing to work with the NDP and the Bloc Québécois

(Ottawa) The Conservatives are ready to work with other opposition MPs to establish terms of reference for investigations into foreign interference.

Party leader Pierre Poilievre said Sunday he would contact the New Democrats and the Bloc Québécois next week to begin work.

The Liberal government says it is ready to hold a public inquiry into allegations that China interfered in two recent federal elections, but wants the opposition to propose its mandate, timeline and potential leader.

The government is working to identify possible loopholes in handling allegations of foreign interference. It also appointed former Governor General David Johnston as the first Special Rapporteur to investigate the matter.

But Mr Johnston resigned from his post on Friday, citing the highly partisan atmosphere surrounding his job.

Poilivre says the government wants to launch a public inquiry soon and before the next federal election.
