Final Fantasy 16 will get a one-day patch despite Square Enix suggesting otherwise

Final Fantasy 16 will join basically every other game in getting a one-day patch, though Square Enix previously indicated it wouldn’t.

As I mentioned MP1STFinal Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that the game will receive an update of approximately 300MB when it is released during Live broadcast before launch.

This is in contrast to comments made by director Hiroshi Takai, who said in May that the developer wasn’t planning to release a one-day update. Talking to Detective gameTakai said that this is because the team is confident in its final design for Final Fantasy 16 and that it wants to ensure the game can be accessed offline.

Yoshida and the development team apologized for including a one-day patch after all, but clarified that it is not a mandatory download, that the game is still completely playable offline, and will be included in the pre-load of the digital copies.

The update is relatively simple, of course, not coming nearly in comparison to some other recent examples. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, another single-player game, requires several tens of gigabytes per day for a single update and cannot be played in any way offline.

The Final Fantasy 16 update will fix some minor scripting errors, improve performance in several places, and fix background bugs that stopped progress or caused crashes in very specific circumstances.

The game launched on June 22, but Square Enix has warned that spoilers may have already leaked online due to the “illegal acquisition” of physical copies. However, fans looking to spoil themselves can jump into the playable intro, with progression carrying over from the beta into the main game.
