Black Panther game announced by EA

EA has announced that Black Panther is in the works. The title was created by Cliffhanger Games, a new Seattle-based 3D studio, in association with Marvel Games.

The upcoming title is called a single-player story-driven third-person action-adventure game. In a press release, Cliffhanger stated, “Our mission is to build a vast, interactive world that enables players to experience what it’s like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther.”

Cliffhanger is led by Kevin Stevens, formerly of Monolith Productions (a studio currently making Wonder Woman), and consists of veteran talent who’ve worked on titles like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, God of War, Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, and more. Among other things. The team is still being assembled and actively recruiting. As such, the untitled Black Panther project is very early in development, so it will be a few years before we have it in our hands.

“We’re committed to providing fans with a defined and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they’d experience in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich SuperHero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic universe for players who love Black Panther,” said Kevin. And they want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

Black Panther first appeared in the comics in July 1966, and today’s news coincides with the character’s 57th anniversary. Although he has been a playable character in several Marvel titles, he has yet to star in his own solo game. However, it’s not the only upcoming game that allows players to take on the mantle of Black Panther. Last year, Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media announced it was making a Marvel game set during World War II starring Captain America and Black Panther Azzuri (T’Challa’s grandfather), along with Wakandan spy and Howling Commando member Gabriel Jones.
