Jack Dorsey after Mark Zuckerberg sent him a follow up request on Threads

Topics, the new social media app that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched as a competitor to Elon Musk’s Twitter, has already racked up 150 million downloads. On the app, people can post texts and links and reply to or repost others’ messages, just like on a microblogging system. Amid this, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey slammed Zuckerberg after the latter sent him a follow request on the new platform.

Taking to Twitter, Mr. Dorsey posted a screenshot where one can see Mr. Zuckerberg’s follow-up request for him. “Very soon,” he wrote in the post’s caption.

Since sharing, his post has more than 1.4 million views and 18,000 likes.

A few days ago, the founder of Twitter also criticized the Meta product because of the similarities it shares with the microblogging platform. He took to Twitter and said, “We wanted flying cars, instead we got 7 Twitter clones” in response to a post that suggested there were many Twitter-like social networks. Applications in the post included Meta Threads, Twitter, Jack Dorsey’s new platform, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Post News.

One user stated that Mr. Dorsey made “two of the seven clones”. The Twitter founder replied that Bluesky and Nostr are “protocols that Twitter can build on”. He added that they would “remove some of the restrictions and burdens. Non-competitiveness.” He also said that BlueSky is a protocol anyone can build on. “Not a clone,” he confirmed.
