Christopher Nolan says it would be a 'privilege' to direct a Bond movie

“The influence of those films on my filmography is embarrassingly obvious,” Nolan told happy sad confused Podcast When asked about the spy series. “At the same time, when you take on a character like that, you’re working with a certain set of limitations.”

The five-time British Academy Award nominee added that any filmmaker who dares to shoulder Bond’s legacy should approach the material with “the right attitude.”

He said, “It should be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really engage with something within the proper constraints because you would never want to do something like that and do it wrong.”

Nolan added that he felt a similar responsibility when he signed on to direct his series Batman films. However, he concluded that if he was going to be involved in any project, he should be fully embraced as a creator.

“You wouldn’t want to shoot a movie without being fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, it’s all — it’s a complete package,” he said. “You have to be really needy and wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you give to the character. Other than that, I’m very happy to be the first to see what they do.”

This, of course, isn’t the first time Nolan has danced around the prospect of signing to helm 007’s picture. In 2017, Tenet said the director play boy that he would “definitely” make a Bond film and maintains an open dialogue with the series’ producers.

“I’ve talked to producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I absolutely love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they’ll do with her,” he said. “Maybe one day that will work. It must be needed, if you know what I mean. It must need renovation. It must need you. And they get along very well.”
