A victim of a violent scooter accident, she wakes up after 15 days in a coma

A 16-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a violent scooter crash on Maloney Boulevard in Gatineau earlier this month. After two weeks in a coma, Ariel finally woke up on Tuesday.

More than two weeks after the car accident, Ariel was still unconscious. With a head injury, lower body and spinal fractures, a ruptured liver and a blood clot, he had to undergo multiple surgeries and a tracheotomy.

“I literally cried with joy. She had both eyes open,” says Isabelle Levert, Ariel’s mother, with emotion.

Through this experiment, Isabel condemns the scene of the accident. Although there is no criminal element to the case and the SPVG has not concluded a configuration issue, she is convinced that the conflict could have been avoided.

Ms Levert says the construction signs in front of Lac Beauchamp are obstructing motorists trying to turn east onto Maloney Boulevard.

“It’s clear they never saw each other, there’s no sign of a break.”

As the gesture was changed the day after the accident, Ariel’s mother’s comments seem well-founded. Following police recommendations, left turns are now prohibited.

The family explains that after a long recovery, doctors are hopeful that he will recover from the ordeal. In the meantime, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help pay medical bills and provide support for Arielle’s rehabilitation.

“The recovery was going to be very long, and then I wanted the mother to be there for her daughter. […] The amount we raise will allow my sister to be there for her,” says Arielle’s aunt Caroline Levert.
