Sean Steichen: Anthony Richardson showed “great poise” against the Bills

NFL first drive Anthony Richardson of the Colts rookie didn’t end up the way he hoped it would.

Richardson and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie were not on the same page on the second play, and Richardson’s pass was deflected by Bills defensive back Dane Jackson. The Bills would go on to score touchdowns, but Richardson didn’t let an early error or deficit stop him from making the most of the next possession.

Richardson moved the Colts 107 yards on their next two drives, but the Colts didn’t score thanks to a failed run on fourth down, a touchdown pass, and a missed field goal. Richardson finished 7 of 12 for 67 yards before giving way to Gardner Minshew and head coach Shane Steichen said he was pleased with the way Richardson handled the early setback.

“I believed He had great poiseSteichen said, via ESPN.com’s Stephen Holder. “I knew we got an objection early. That’s my fault. We’ve got to do a better job of communicating about that…. It starts with coaching, it starts with myself. Other than that, I thought it was efficient.”

Richardson had a different approach to interception, which came when he threw a pass under pressure. He said he needs to “find a way to manage it as best he can instead of trying to be Superman” and this is part of a learning experience that the Colts hope will pay off for Richardson in the long run.
