State of Play for PlayStation September 2023: All announced

PlayStation held its latest State of Play showcase, where Sony’s gaming arm focused on upcoming indie and third-party games on their way to PlayStation consoles as well as the PlayStation VR2 headset.

If you missed the event, don’t worry, this roundup covers all the announcements that appeared during the September 2023 PlayStation State of Play showcase.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024

The final (but biggest) announcement from State of Play today was the release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2. Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release exclusively on PS5 on February 29, 2024. What’s even more interesting is that the end of the trailer revealed that Rebirth will be released on two separate discs.

The new Spider-Man 2 trailer highlights the many spider-suits you can capture

Insomniac Games has released a new trailer for Spider-Man 2 with the biggest takeaway being that over 65 different Spider suits will be available when the game releases next month. Insomniac notes that original designs as well as the suits depicted in the comic books and movies will be available.

Resident Evil 4 has separate downloadable content (DLC) roads coming next week

Capcom has confirmed that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake is indeed getting paid post-launch content in the form of Separate Ways, which will be released on September 21. The game takes place during the events of Resident Evil 4, with players controlling Ada Wong, who appears several times in the main story.

Resident Evil 4 Remake’s PlayStation VR2 mode is getting a winter release window

We already knew that a VR mode for the PS5 version of Resident Evil 4 was in development. But news has been scarce until today, as Capcom shared a new trailer for the game while confirming that the PS VR2 mode will be available to download for free at some point this winter.

Avatar: Pandora’s Frontiers is getting a new story

Ubisoft showed off a new trailer for the upcoming open-world game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at its State of Play event in September 2023. Players will control Na’vi who have been trained by the RDA and trained in “human ways.” As one of the last members of the Sarento clan, players will return to Pandora in a fish out of water experience.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released on December 7.

The Deep Earth collection for PS5 introduces new interfaces and DualSense colours

Sony is adding more options to give your PS5 some personal flair. In the case of gaming today, the company announced the Deep Earth Collection, a new line of accessories that includes three new colors (Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver) and these new colors will be available as controller covers and DualSense controllers.

The red and blue front panels and DualSense controllers will arrive on November 3, while the silver color will be available for both on January 26, 2024.

Bennett Fody’s next game, Baby Steps, will be released next summer

Bennett Foudy, the developer behind Getting Over It, has announced that his next game will arrive in the summer of 2024. Baby Steps, published by Devolver Digital, based on the new trailer, looks a lot like a walking simulator, with players controlling Nate who… Going through this world one step at a time.

Roblox for PS4 gets an October 10th release date

Following last week’s announcement that Roblox is coming to PlayStation consoles, State of Play today revealed that the PS4 version of the game will arrive on October 10 and includes cross-platform support.

Ghostbusters Rise of the Ghost Lord will be released next month on PlayStation VR2

After being announced over two years ago, nDreams has officially announced that Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will be released on October 26, just in time for Halloween. The game takes place in San Francisco, where players run their own ghost-busting business. Players will have the opportunity to play solo or with up to three friends as they attempt to β€œstop the powerful Ghost Lord and his band of malicious ghosts from causing chaos.”

The new trailer for Helldivers 2 gives us another look at the gameplay as well as the release date

We already knew that Arrowhead was working on a sequel to the top shooter of 2015. After an initial announcement in May, the developer announced today that Helldivers 2 will be coming to PS5 and PC on February 8, 2024.

Foamstars is in open beta

Following its reveal in May, Square Enix announced that Splatoon-like shooter Foamstars will be getting an open beta. The beta will be available on PS5 and will start on September 29 and end on October 1.

Tales of Arise is getting an expansion in November, two years after release

Bandai Namco Studios dropped a stunning surprise today, announcing that the more than two-year-old RPG Tales of Arise will be getting an expansion. The expansion is subtitled Beyond the Dawn, and will arrive on November 9.
