A pedestrian in his twenties was in critical condition after being hit by a motorist at the Centre-Suite junction on Thursday evening. The police have started investigations.
At 8:25 p.m., the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) reported being called to the scene of a collision from the Center-South neighborhood at the corner of Ontario and Frontenac streets.
According to preliminary information received from witnesses, the driver was traveling north on Frontenac Street, “then struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk at Ontario Street, westbound,” indicated Agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesman. For SPVM.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, was taken to hospital and feared for his life by the end of the evening, Mr. Braband said.

A large police cordon was erected to allow investigators to gather clues. Frontenac Street is closed northbound from La Fontaine Street. Rue Ontario is closed in both directions between Rue du Havre and Rue d’Iberville.
Investigators can also view videotapes from surveillance cameras located near the scene to try to determine the exact sequence of events.
