Las Vegas police have reportedly arrested a man in connection with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur nearly three decades ago.

The hip-hop legend was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996. The identity of his killer remains a mystery.

Las Vegas police on Friday arrested a man in connection with his death, according to sources who spoke to the Associated Press.

A police press conference is expected to be held soon.

He died at the age of 25 on September 13, 1996, a week after he was shot four times in his car while waiting at a red light.

In a separate report, ABC News quoted a senior legal official confirming that a suspect has been arrested in connection with Shakur’s killing, and that charges will be announced Friday afternoon.

The death of the rapper, one of hip-hop’s most famous artists, has inspired several documentaries.

“Tupac was a prolific rapper, poet and actor, and today his words still serve as such a blueprint for culture and society,” radio host Mike Mewes, responding to news of the arrest, told ABC News.

“That’s why his death has always loomed in our minds for so long; because of what really happened to him.”

Shakur, whose stage name was stylized as 2Pac, released his debut album in 1991.

He has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, enjoying chart success with hits including California Love, All Eyez On Me and Changes.
