Columbia Gas is temporarily halting service to about 4,000 Pittsburgh-area residents

CANNONSBURG, Pa. (KDKA) – Nearly 4,000 Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania customers in and around the Beaver County communities of Baden, Conway, Economy and Freedom are temporarily without natural gas service.

Columbia Gas shut down service “as a safety precaution after technicians identified an issue with natural gas introduced into the system by an outside gas supplier,” according to a company news release Sunday.

The company added that it is expected to take several days to shut down and restore service. Early reports from Columbia Gas indicate that this problem was not intentionally caused by someone or something.

The complete list of streets affected by the power outage can be found here.

Columbia Gas technicians are turning off all gas meters in the affected area. Once completed, crews will restore natural gas flow to the system and will go door to door conducting safety checks and restarting natural gas appliances.

For customers who are not home during the service restoration process, door hangers will be left at their homes informing them of the service outage and asking them to call Columbia Gas at 1-888-460-4332 to send a service technician to restore service to their home. .
