Fallout-themed cards are coming to Magic: The Gathering

The Fallout series was born in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of America’s West Coast, and successive games have expanded beyond California and explored regions such as Nevada, Appalachia, Washington, and even outer space. Now, a whole host of Fallout characters are heading to the Planar Multiverse, appearing as part of four new Commander sets for Magic: Gathering. First announced in August, Wizards of the Coast on Thursday revealed the first details about these new products, which will go to retail on March 8, 2024. They are available for pre-order now.

Commander collections follow four themes, combining meta-layered gameplay mechanics with familiar faces and locations from the Fallout franchise. And yes, you can definitely pet your dog.

• the Survivors are scattered The deck is represented by long-time series companion and very good ol’ boy Dogmeat, with cards focused on scavenging unwanted waste to repurpose into allies, weapons, and tools.
• Sciences! floors with Fallout 3 And Fallout 4Dr. Madison Lee serves as its leader, generating energy to power plasma weapons, mad scientists, and pre-war robots.
• ship surface Yahya the Caesar It’s a perfect addition, because, as we all know from Fallout’s opening narrative, war never changes. The leader of this deck is Fallout: New Vegas“Roman-loving warlord, Caesar.
• finally, Mutant Dangerous decks are run by celebrities Fallout 76 The hidden Osman. The Mutant Menace lineup is filled with many mutant creatures and cryptids that have appeared throughout the franchise and its various iterations across America.

These decks are accompanied by lavish floor cards, showing the different locations of Fallout’s wastelands and post-apocalyptic civilizations. Below, we have a preview of the 52 cards that players can obtain and enter. Expect more to be revealed as we get closer to launch.

While Caesar, Dogmeat, Madison Li, and Mothman all star as commanders, there are still plenty of other references to the Fallout universe. If you’ve ever looked through the basement full of copies of Gary Fallout 3You may be pleased that they appear here as well. There are also animals that are found only in Fallout 76 or Fallout: New Vegaslike the evil Scorchbeast Queen who appeared in one of the Swamp Land cards.

The post-nuclear war and sci-fi sensibilities mean that Fallout feels very distinct, even next to other Universes Beyond crossover cards from other series. There are also a few different art styles to add more variety. Some of the cards are illustrated with simple drawn images, and look like typical cards you’d find in a binder Magic: Gathering on him.

Others choose to lean into Fallout’s unique aesthetic a bit more. Some cards are photographed through the lens of a Pip-Boy, a handy wrist-mounted gadget that allows Vault Dwellers to check a map or listen to the radio. There are also some cards depicted in the old edutainment anime style of in-universe Fallout propaganda, starring the delightful Vault Boy.
