Evacuating Canadians stuck in Gaza until Sunday?

Hundreds of Canadians trapped in the Gaza Strip could leave the territory starting Sunday.

At least that’s what a message World Affairs Canada sent to Canadians caught in Gaza suggests.

“We have been informed that over 400 Canadian citizens, permanent residents and eligible family members will be able to leave Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. [à la frontière égyptienne] In the coming days, and possibly as early as Sunday. We will contact you with specific dates,” the ministry wrote, according to CTV News, which obtained a copy of the message.

Both the ministry and its minister, Melanie Jolie, have indicated publicly that more than 400 Canadians could leave the Gaza Strip, but they did not put forward a date for Sunday, contrary to a message sent directly to key interested parties.

“Today I spoke with my Israeli representative, Eli Cohen, and he confirmed to me that Canadians and their families will be able to leave Gaza in the coming days. My Egyptian representative assured me of their cooperation,” said Ms.me Jolly at X on Thursday evenings.

In its Friday update, the department said it was in contact with 516 Canadians trapped in the Gaza Strip.

To date, only one Canadian has managed to get out of the besieged territory on 1R November, World Affairs spotlights Canada.

The Gaza Strip has been under constant bombardment since the war began on October 7.

Remember that at least 1,400 people were killed in Israel’s Hamas attacks, and according to Israel, more than 9,200 Palestinians, including thousands of children, lost their lives in retaliation, according to Hamas.
