Trudeau is excited by Quebec’s emerging battery industry

(Trois-Rivières) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it is “exciting” to see the deployment of the new Energy Transition Valley connecting the towns of Pecancourt, Shawinigan and Trois-Rivières in Mauricie and Centre-du-Rivières. Quebec


On Saturday, Mr. Morrissey passed through to attend the Liberal Party conference. Trudeau made a morning stop at Trois-Rivières City Hall to meet with municipal elected officials and discuss the region’s current plans.

The Prime Minister spent a few minutes with Trois-Rivières Mayor Jean Lamarche, Shawinigan Mayor Michel Angers and Bécancour Mayor Lucie Allard. Alain Lemieux, General Director of Energy Transition Valley, was also present.

Mr. “The valley’s overall vision of this energy transition is very exciting,” according to Trudeau, who added that journalists were able to attend as part of the meeting.

“Shawinigan, obviously, has a lot of enthusiasm for energy and change. Bécancour, the battery sector is great and exciting,” Mr. Trudeau underscored.

The creation of the Energy Transition Valley of Bécancour, Shawinigan and Trois-Rivières was announced last spring with great fanfare by various levels of government.

This innovation zone, the third recognized in Quebec, focuses on the electrification of the battery sector, transport and industrial decarbonisation.

During the initial announcement, Quebec Premier François Legault spoke of a “new economic golden age for Centre-du-Quebec and the Mauricie region.”

Mr. Trudeau reiterated this enthusiasm on Saturday, but reminded us that in the midst of this economic growth, we must not lose sight of the needs and priorities of the people living in these two regions.

“It’s easy to end up talking enough about the economy, about investment, about people,” he said.

With this growth bringing challenges, Citizens must ensure that the region’s families are at the center of everything we do. Because in a period of change and transformation of our economies, our world, it is important that people feel confident about the plan we are implementing for the future.

He mentioned that the central government will support in housing and transport issues.

After this meeting, Mr. Trudeau was due to attend his political party’s convention and address activists on Saturday afternoon.
