Some areas, such as central Quebec, will wake up with snowflakes on Thursday, but these will quickly turn to freezing rain during the day and make roads slippery, Environment Canada warned.
As of Thursday morning, nearly 5 centimeters of snow is expected in the south of the province, but precipitation will soon turn to light freezing rain and temperatures will rise above freezing, especially in the greater Montreal region and Lanaire, the federal agency noted.
In Gatineau, 2 to 5 centimeters of snow and sleet are expected to accumulate in some areas, while the area presents a risk of freezing rain.
“Sleet and snow continue this morning. […] “Snowfall is expected to become widespread late this morning or this afternoon as temperatures rise above freezing,” Environment Canada said on its website.
In the national capital and central Quebec, snow is expected to start in the morning, accumulating a few centimeters on the ground, while the mercury will reach a maximum of 0, with a wind chill of minus 9.
Snowflakes may give way to freezing rain this evening, while Environment Canada will report intermittent snow with rain in Estrie, Beauce, Morrissey, Drummondville and Montmagny.
The Laurentides, Maniwaki, Pontiac and Témiscamingue sectors will be spoiled by snow, with 5 to 10 centimeters expected by Thursday afternoon.
Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for Salluit in the far north, where winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour could significantly reduce visibility for several hours.
