A Jewish school located on Deacon Street near Van Horn Avenue received multiple calls to 911 around 5 a.m. about a shooting.

According to witnesses, after the weapon was discharged in the direction of the building, a vehicle quickly left the scene.

No arrests have yet been made and no injuries have been reported in the incident, said Véronique Dubuc, spokeswoman for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).

Several shell casings were found on the ground, SPVM said.

SPVM inspectors visited the spot and investigated.

Hate crimes on the rise

It was the second attack against the school and the third in a week against a Jewish institute in Montreal. Hers was another Jewish school targeted by gunfire Thursday morning.

The SPVM has reported around fifty hate incidents against the Jewish community since the war between Israel and Hamas has led to tensions in Montreal since October 7.

Montreal’s mayor strongly condemned the reprehensible actions and called for calm earlier in the week.
