Quebec has reported 1,256 new COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing the total to 454,636 victims and 11,587 deaths since the outbreak.
A quarter of children between the ages of 5 and 11 have already been vaccinated in Quebec, according to the most recent provincial data released on Sunday in the wake of a resumption of the epidemic.
To date, more than 166,000 children have received the first dose of the Govit-19 vaccine, which is 25% of eligible adolescents.
This rapid increase in vaccination is timely, as Quebec continues to pile up new diseases at a pace reminiscent of the third wave last spring.
As usual, more than half of those who are not vaccinated – including children – or 661 continue to be infected, although this group makes up only 22.2% of the population. Fully vaccinated people account for 570 COVID-19 cases, while they make up 75.4% of the population.
With regard to hospitalization, there was little improvement with 219 beds occupied by patients infected with the virus or six less than the previous day. Fifty-nine of those patients were in intensive care, one less than Saturday.
Summit in Ontario
For its part, Ontario reported 1,187 new infections in the last 24 hours, the worst total since the end of May. However, no casualties were reported.
This is the third time in a row that the country’s most populous province has crossed the 1,000-day mark for infections, after 1,053 cases and 1,031 cases were reported on Saturday and Friday, respectively.
