Embracer Group, the company behind the closure of Saints Row studio Volition Games and layoffs at companies like Eidos-Montréal and Black Forest Games, is set to sell Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake developer Saber Interactive, according to a new report. Bloomberg a report. A source told the publication that Embracer is selling the developer to a group of private investors in a deal worth $500 million.
Once the deal is completed, Saber Interactive will become a privately held company and free of Embracer, which has been behind widespread layoffs over the past two years. Following the deal, the studio will continue work on the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which it took over as developer after Aspyr Media removed from it in 2022.
Bloomberg Reports indicate that this sale is another effort by Embracer to cut costs along with studio closures and layoffs after a planned $2 billion deal with Saudi Arabia-backed Savvy Games Group fell through in 2023. The publication wrote that one of its sources says the deal… Its $500 million value comes with an option for Saber Interactive to bring along several Embracer subsidiaries as well.
Saber Interactive is also working on the recently announced Jurassic Park: Survival game.
