“It could have caused death”: A rock was thrown at her windshield while she was driving on the highway

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) launched an investigation after a man threw a rock at the windshield of a Montérégie resident while he was driving on the highway.

“Who would be stupid enough to do that? I do not know. It could have caused many deaths,” summarizes Alban Cannaferina, a resident of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Just before 8 a.m. Friday, she was driving down Highway 35 to an appointment at her car dealership in Saint-Hubert.

As she passed under the Chemin Saint-André viaduct, her vehicle suffered a deafening impact without warning.

Initiated on purpose?

“Suddenly it boomed! I ended up putting the glasses on myself.

An object, possibly a rock, fell on his hood, before bouncing back and breaking his glasses. “It should be at least five inches in diameter,” he estimates.

Fortunately, Mme Cannaferina knew how to keep his composure and kept driving, avoiding accidents.

“My instinct was to grab my steering wheel and look back to see if someone was going to hit me. In my rearview mirror, I saw someone running down the viaduct.

This individual, Mme Cannaferina is said to have deliberately thrown a rock from the top of the Chemin Saint-André viaduct.

This is not the first time such an event has been reported in Quebec. Two months ago, a man was arrested in Sherbrooke after throwing large rocks at several passing vehicles.

Mme Cannaferina hopes the police will catch the alleged perpetrator because she fears he will do it again.

“Next time it might be a family with young children and the driver might not have the self-control that I had. It can actually be dangerous. I'm very lucky.”
