[PHOTOS] Third fire in Quebec in a week

Quebec City was the target of another car arson attack overnight Monday into Tuesday. This is the third such incident in a week.

The Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ) is investigating a fire that broke out around 3:30 a.m. on Paul-Bourdvais street in the Loretteville sector.

As late as Tuesday morning, a petrol can was found lying on the roof of the burnt car, leaving little doubt as to whether or not it was a crime.

The burning car was parked in a private driveway. The fire spread to other vehicles but did not damage the residences.

The fire department went to the scene and a dog handler searched around the crime scene, but no suspects were arrested.

SPVQ's Forensic Identification Unit has been deployed at the site while investigations shed light on the matter.

Third fire in seven days

Remember, this is the third arson attack on a vehicle that Quebec police have investigated in seven days.

In the early hours of last Tuesday, firefighters had to go to Rue Desroches in the department of Miserets to put out a similar fire.

A car parked directly on the side of the road caught fire and was destroyed, with several details suggesting a deliberate act.

SPVQ searched the entire area to nab the suspect but to no avail.

Then again on Sunday evening, another vehicle was damaged by fire on rue Cardinal-Taschereau in the Saint-Sauveur sector.

Firefighters rushed to the scene around 6 pm and brought the fire under control.

Clues found at the scene confirmed it was arson, so SPVQ was called to assist.

However, the city police could not confirm whether these incidents are linked to each other or whether they are related to the war between different factions of organized crime.

“We are investigating each of these fires individually,” explains SPVQ spokesman William Robitaille.
