The case of a 17-year-old accused of killing Daphne Jolivet on Oct. 26 gained momentum after he tried to escape custody when he was transferred to a child mental health center on Tuesday.

The teenager appeared in juvenile chambers Wednesday morning to face five new charges.
The prosecutor charged two counts of escape from lawful custody, carrying a weapon for dangerous purposes, uttering threats and assault with a weapon.
According to information from NewspaperThe young convict was traveling from the Le Gouvernail center, where he is being held pending a murder trial, to the Residence du Sacré-Cœur, where he had an appointment with a specialist.
He would have used this moment to show the responders a homemade weapon, before they fled.
He was arrested within minutes
The Quebec City Police Department confirms they received a call for a wanted juvenile at around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
“The call was for a minor who had hit the responders and fled,” explained Sandra Dion, a spokeswoman for the police force.
The youth, who cannot be identified because he is a minor, was located by SPVQ agents within minutes. They were soon able to arrest him.
The CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, responsible for the care of young people in Gouvernail, explains that security measures during user transport are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. So juvenile offenders are not formally handcuffed during trips like Tuesday's.
“Safety measures are put in place for every visit of minors in closed custody based on a rigorous analysis of the risk level and risk factors. These measures are adapted to the circumstances and their application is made with respect to the rights of these minor users,” notes spokeswoman Melanie Otis.
On Wednesday morning, the teenager was physically brought to a Quebec court for her appearance. Family members also appeared in court for the first time for Daphne Jolivet, who did not go to her first appearance in the alleged murder of the 19-year-old.
A string of accusations
Recall that the latter lost his life on October 26, 2023, in a residence on rue Genevieve-Lamarre in the Limoilou sector.

After these violent crimes, the accused, who was 16 at the time of the incident, fled in a car belonging to Daphne Jolivet's family members. After crashing with a few hundred meters to go, he had finished his race.
Daphne Jolivet, 19, was murdered on the night of October 25 to 26, 2023, while she was at the family home.

In the case, the teenager faces charges of first-degree murder, sexual assault with a weapon, attempted murder, aggravated assault, vehicle theft and driving while impaired.
The teenager is due back in court at the end of May for all of his cases. State Attorney Mr.e Hugo Breton has already announced his desire to have the suspect sentenced as an adult after his trial.
