An unlicensed taxi driver who allegedly ran a red light to escape police who tried to stop him sent “several” people, including a life-threatening person, to hospital in Kot Nagar on Monday morning. -Des-Neiges district, in Montreal.
By mid-afternoon, the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) announced that it was taking responsibility for shedding light on the incident, which took place around 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Boulevard Décarie and Rue Ferrier.
Nine BEI investigators were assigned to the case.
The incidents occurred in the morning when patrol officers allegedly tried to pull over a taxi driver for violation. Road Safety Code.
However, the taxi driver continued on his way, ran a red light and hit two vehicles at the intersection.
The impact is brutal. Montreal firefighters used extrication pliers to cut open one of the vehicles and free the occupants.
According to BEI, at least three people were taken to different hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Our information suggests that at least one of them is life-threatening.
Officials have not released the ages of the victims.
BEI investigators will look into the intervention of SPVM patrol officers, while the Sûreté du Québec will investigate the actions of the taxi driver responsible for this violent confrontation.
The incident forced the closure of a portion of northbound Decari Boulevard and the Jean-Dalon exit of the northbound Decari Expressway for most of Monday.
The closures have caused a horrendous snarl for thousands of stranded motorists.
