Police officers from the Eeyou Eenou Police Service (SPEE) were called to the beach at Chisasibi, a Cree land of about 5,000 people east of James Bay, at around 6am on Saturday.
At the scene, a juvenile, under the age of 18 whose age has not been confirmed by authorities, was found unresponsive and suffering from what may have been serious injuries from a bladed weapon, according to a press release from SPEE.
He was immediately rushed to Chisasibi Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Arrests
Two persons, minors, have been arrested by the police on suspicion.
They will appear in custody and face charges of second-degree murder, saying the crime was unplanned.
The investigation is now being carried out by the Crimes Against Persons Unit of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in cooperation with the local police.
Forensic Identification Service has been dispatched to the spot to investigate the incident and shed light on the matter.
