Germany demands ‘consequences’ for Palestinians linked to Israeli jeep

Germany condemned the manner in which a wounded Palestinian was tied to the hood of a military vehicle in the northern West Bank city of Jenin over the weekend, calling for “clarification and consequences,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman in Berlin said Monday.

The spokesman said the video showing the incident was “difficult to bear”.

The IDF on Sunday confirmed the incident in which IDF soldiers tied the injured man to the hood of a jeep and drove them past two ambulances in the city.

She added that the forces were on their way to conduct a counter-terrorism operation in the greater Jenin area when they came under fire.

The Israeli army said: “The terrorists opened fire on the Israeli army forces, who returned fire. During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was injured and arrested.”

The Israeli army said that the behavior of the IDF forces violated military procedures, and the incident was being investigated.

She added that the injured suspect was handed over to the Red Cross for medical treatment.

A German Foreign Ministry spokesman said he was aware that this behavior constituted a violation of IDF rules and that the German government now expected “quick clarification, quick results and corresponding consequences for those responsible.”
