Tens of thousands of homes were without power Saturday evening after a bus hit a power pole, Hydro-Québec said.
The accident happened on the south coast, at the corner of Chemin de Chambly and Highway 30. According to the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL), the collision initially occurred between two vehicles on one of the curves leading to the highway.
Following the collision around 10 pm, the bus overturned on an electric pole and collapsed. According to preliminary information from SPAL, at least one person was injured and taken to hospital. “Police officers and special teams are working to control the incident,” police force spokesperson Ghislaine Vallieres said.
Hydro-Québec assures it is “mobilized to quickly restore service.” However, the state-owned firm notes that “it is not possible at this stage to estimate the recovery time”.
According to information made public on the Info-pannes website, power will be restored at 12:30 midnight this Sunday.
