Smoke is back in Quebec, but there is good news

A smog episode could affect air quality in some parts of Quebec. forecast.


Smoke in Quebec

A wildfire in western Canada is creating a plume of smoke. So far this season, Quebec hasn’t suffered much in terms of air quality. By the end of the week, an episode should occur in several parts of the province. From Wednesday onwards, some sectors may see deterioration in air quality. On Thursday, even bigger Montreal effects could be felt. However, northern areas are more affected.

Favorable environment

Because of the upper trough located in the east of the province, a smoke plume should be created to the south. Aerosols or airborne particulates carried by strong winds at high altitudes can affect air quality in areas where concentrations are high. The map shows the most affected areas outlined in dark.

Saves the rain

If the weekend looks gray, the passing of a system indicates good news. As of Friday evening, progress is likely in the west and south of the province due to a disturbance pushing smoke towards the northeast. However, for much of the east, there is a risk of gusty winds later on Saturday.
