‘Baywatch’ Stars Admit Show Was ‘Not Really Good’, Reveal How Actors Made It Great

The series’ biggest star said years later that the plot of “Baywatch” “wasn’t really good.”

Baywatch starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Jeremy Jackson, Alexandra Paul, Carmen Electra, Yasmine Bleeth, David Charvet, Nicole Eggert, and more. The series ran from 1989 to 2001, and at its peak attracted 1.2 billion viewers per week. Eggert, who played Summer Quinn, teamed up with her former cast to review the television series in the documentary series Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.

Nearly 35 years later, the crew can admit that the story lines were a bit silly.

“The show wasn’t really good,” Hasselhoff admitted in the documentary, via People’s Magazine“But we did it because we were passionate.”

Kelly Slater, who played young surfer Jimmy Slade, recalled filming an episode in which an octopus stole their surfboard and held them hostage.

“I felt the writing was illogical in many ways,” he said.

However, the “nonsensical” writing seems to have helped the show.

“We were the butt of jokes on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno'” “All the time, every time he told a joke, our ratings went up,” explained the show’s co-creator Douglas Schwartz.

Despite the show’s success, the “Baywatch” cast didn’t get paid much. Each star earned $3,500 per episode, according to Eggert.

“I think Friends at the time was making a million dollars an episode,” she said during the documentary.

“I remember panicking when I saw my first paycheck after taxes,” adds Erika Eleniak. “How was I really going to live on this money?”

“There’s not a single rich actor on Baywatch,” said Billy Warlock, who played Eddie Kramer for two seasons of the series.

Eggert, who led the project for the documentary series “Baywatch,” gave fans an update on her journey with cancer at the premiere on Monday.

“I’m fine,” Eggert said. the people magazine On the red carpet. “I’m kind of in a gray area and I’m done with my treatment, waiting for more filming and maybe surgery hopefully.”

“There’s a lot of waiting involved, which I didn’t really realize and no one really talks about,” she explained. “But the gray area is the hardest because you don’t know what’s going on, and when I get treatment, I feel like I’m doing something useful.”

Eggert was diagnosed with stage II ethmoidal breast cancer in 2023.
