“I spoke with Justin Trudeau. I thanked him for his leadership in imposing anti-Russian sanctions. I pointed out that he should extend the sanctions.
“Volodymyr, Canada and the world stand with you – stop immediately President Putin’s illegal attacks that have resulted in the deaths of civilians,” Prime Minister Trudeau commented on his own Twitter account.
The latter pointed out that other sanctions against Russia could be announced soon following discussions with Canada’s “allies and partners.”
For its part, the Prime Minister’s Office noted that the two leaders “discussed measures that Canada can take to continue to support Ukraine in the immediate future.”
“The President thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for announcing firm and punitive sanctions against Russian banks and oligarchs directly responsible for or supporting this unprovoked invasion.
