Ukraine admits losing cities in east as Russia escalates offensive

The Ukrainian armed forces have acknowledged the loss of many towns and villages in the eastern regions as Russia intensifies its ground offensive.

A Ukrainian army spokesman said, on Wednesday, that heavy fighting is continuing on three fronts, with Russian forces being reinforced and resupplied from bases inside Russia.

Despite the territorial loss, Ukrainian authorities said that nine enemy attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions alone were repulsed, with Russian equipment destroyed – including nine tanks and 11 artillery systems.

Ukrainian forces are fighting mainly in three directions to prevent Russian forces from capturing all Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which is the declared goal of the Kremlin.

from the north, The Ukrainian army said that Russian units were attacking in the direction of Barkinov, a town south of Izyum, and had captured the disputed village of Zavodi for several days.

The Ukrainians also admitted that the Russians had captured the outskirts of the Velika Komishovakha settlement in the same area.

From East, Russian forces took control of the town of Zarechen and began attacking nearby Yampel.

The spokesman said that the Russian offensive operations were also focused on the Severodonetsk, Popasna and Kurakhiv regions. Russian troops have also taken control of the Novotoshkivsky settlement, and are trying to advance west.

in the south, Russian forces are trying to strengthen a land bridge to the Crimea and occupy the Ukrainian coastal areas.

The Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that Russian units are regrouping and conducting aerial reconnaissance, and are trying to advance north towards the city of Kryvyi Rih and into the Zaporozhye region.

She also accused the Russians who occupied the Kherson region of further “liquidating” civilians in two regions.

Reported damages include energy infrastructure in the city of Zelenodolsk and a severe fire in Dnipropetrovsk.

“Ukrainian armed forces show courage and conduct successful operations,” said the head of the military administration of Kryvyi Rih.

He added that Russian prisoners had been arrested.
