A 17-year-old driver died in the violent collision

A 17-year-old driver lost his life in a violent side-by-side collision Saturday afternoon in Nord-du-Québec.

The tragedy occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Route 113 in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, a small municipality of about 2,000 souls.

As the victim traveled southbound in a red Hyundai Accent, he turned left to join Chemin du Moulin.

“At first glance, the driver did not give way to the heavy truck that was coming from the north, so in the opposite direction,” explains Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec.

After the impact, Agent Bilodo said the young woman was in “extremely critical” condition. He was finally pronounced dead at the hospital.

As for the heavy truck driver, in his late twenties, he was treated for a nervous breakdown.

Collision investigators were sent to the scene to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The 17-year-old driver’s death adds to the number of young people who have died on Quebec roads this year.

On the morning of January 9, 18-year-old Roger Miguel Obama Egani feared he would be late for work when he crashed head-on into a tree in Montreal North.

On March 11, Mathis Filion, 18, died in a head-on collision on Highway 20 near Sainte-Hélène-de-Bagot.

Mathieu Veillette, 25, of Ontario, was charged with causing the crash while driving while impaired.
