Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay explains, “At around 6 p.m., emergency services were called for a missing child who had fallen into the waters of the Saint-Maurice River.
Near the rue Zéphirin-Doucet, two children playing by the water fell into the river. One of them escaped unhurt, but the other disappeared in the river.
A thorough investigation was carried out. Several emergency services rushed to the scene. The Sûreté du Québec is responsible for the operation. “There’s an active search on the ground. Firefighters are out on the water. Patrols are there [de la Sûreté du Québec] On both sides of the river. There are civilians on boats to help with the search. Trained search patrol officers are assigned to the program. Everything is being done to find him as quickly as possible,” says Sergeant Tremblay.
The Sûreté du Québec helicopter flew over the area Sunday evening. Firefighters from the Régie intermunicipale d’fire de la Vallee du Saint-Maurice, along with their colleagues from Shawinigan, are participating in the research.
