A distraught ex-soldier keeps the police in Arvida in suspense

A 40-year-old former soldier was arrested by Saguenay police under unusual circumstances Monday evening.

The distressed man parked his van directly on the grounds of the Saguenay Police Headquarters at Carré Davis at 7:00 p.m. His purpose is unknown.

He was brought under control at 10.45 pm.

The police first set up a security perimeter in Arvida town and asked traders to stay inside and not look out of their windows.

The suspect was transported to Chicoutimi Hospital Center. He could face intimidation charges.

According to our information, he left the Canadian Armed Forces in 2020 after 16 years of service. Notably, he has been deployed to Afghanistan on several occasions.

According to relatives TVA Nouvelles spoke with, he is showing signs of post-traumatic stress disorder and has been asking the Canadian Armed Forces for help for years.
