A few days before midsummer, open fires are banned in many areas

Open fires are prohibited in parts of Quebec until Thursday afternoon due to “current conditions”.

MRCs in three regions are affected by the ban, ordered by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry: Côte-Nord, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

On the north shore, MRCs targeted by open fire bans include Manicouagan (east of the Manicouagan River and part of René-Levasseur Island), Sept-Rivières, Caniapiscau (only for its part of René-Levasseur Island), Mingani (including Anticosti Island) and Côte-Nord-du. -Golf-to-Saint-Laurent.

In Bas-Saint-Laurent, residents of the MRCs of La Matapédia, La Matanie, La Mitis, Rimouski-Neigette and des Basques should refrain from lighting open fires.

On the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine side, the ban affects the MRCs of Rocher-Percé, La Côte-de-Gaspé, La Haute-Gaspésie, Bonaventure and Avignon.

According to the SOPFEU, three forest fires are currently active in Quebec, namely the MRC of Sept-Rivières and Manicouvagan, one on the North Shore and the MRC of La Côte-de-Caspée in the Caspé.
