A loud noise was heard  An “unfounded” incident prompts a large police presence at Collège Brébeuf

An evening of students and staff at the private college Jean-de-Brébeuf was turned upside down Wednesday evening by a large police operation after several calls to 911. The incident was finally classified as “unfounded” by the SPVM.


For more than an hour on Wednesday evening, police officers from the Montreal Police Department patrolled the Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road establishment and its perimeter to ensure the safety of the occupants.

Jean Drouin, SPVM’s media relations officer, said the frenzy began around 8:40 p.m., when several calls to 911 came in. Callers reported hearing a loud noise to emergency services, the source of which has not been located.

A large police deployment has been launched to assess the situation, Agent Drouin confirmed. The college was not evacuated. There were no injuries or arrests. Around 9:50 p.m., the incident was classified as “unfounded.”

As per our information, the students and other members of the college staff have been banned from the institution pending further action. By the end of the evening, they were able to resume their activities.
