Three police officers were injured by a 23-year-old man in downtown Montreal on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 2:40 p.m., patrol officers first received a call to inquire about the well-being of a man who appeared to be unwell near St.-Catherine Street.
According to our information, the person indulged in obscene gestures.
Police were the first to arrive at the scene on a bicycle. Wanting to make physical contact with the suspect, whose pants were down, the latter immediately punched one of the officers in the head.
A second police officer then intervened and was scratched in the face by the man, who then fled.
Reinforcements were later called in and a police officer was able to capture the suspect at a short distance. Undeterred, the young man bit the third agent and wounded him on the arm.
The suspect was finally subdued, but cayenne pepper had to be used to calm his intensity.
He was taken to the police station for questioning and felony charges of assault against a peace officer may be filed in the coming hours.
The three injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
